Last year I bought a pair of jeans that were too big for me so that they would hide that I was getting fat. Don’t laugh — I’m serious! Unfortunately, due to my bad eating habits and lack of exercise, it didn’t take long for them to get tight. I was so mad once I realized what had happened that I stuck them in the dresser, acting as if they were the issue. Last week I ran out of clean jeans and pulled them out to wear. I honestly forgot about my disdain for them until I went to button them and realized they were really loose on my waist. Heck ya!

About two months ago I finally came to the realization that I wasn’t taking care of myself the way I should be and that if I didn’t make some changes right then that I would be making it even harder to go back. I asked Matt if I could follow along with him while he did yoga twice a week. Yoga always seemed too cool for me. And way too hard. But losing my ass was no joke so I had to do something.

I really hate talking about my physical fitness because more often than not people respond with, “You’ve got to be kidding me! You are so skinny!” It doesn’t matter how small my frame may be, 25% body fat is not a happy place to be. I’d much prefer to be strong, healthy and at a weight I’m comfortable with. So along with doing yoga, I also cut down my food portions a bit, added more fruits and veggies and started to restrict my chai intake. Cuz, seriously, I doubt Starbucks chai resembles the original in any way besides the name. Emm, sugary fatty deliciousness! Ha.

My whole point of this is that I’m in my third month of doing yoga. I love it. My body feels so much better and I actually look forward to the nights we practice. I’ve gotten noticeably stronger and am looking forward to doing some of the really cool difficult poses. The picture to the left is one pose I want to do — it’s not the most impressive one necessarily but I’ll feel pretty cool once I can do it. Haha. (photo from Women’s Health)

A funny thing happened after I started doing yoga too: I started exercising a couple of extra times a week on my own. I don’t really look forward to those nights yet but I feel awesome after I’m done. I feel like I should run a couple of times a week too but I’m not quite there either. I hate running. It’s another thing that I’ve always wanted to do because it seems therapeutic in a way and I think I’d like it if I can just get past whatever it is that is bother me about it. Maybe one day.

I wanted to share this because all of this has been a big deal in my life in the past few years. I’m nowhere near my goal but I’m glad that I’ve seen a small amount of progress to keep me going. It’s true, my changes may be minute compared to the folks on the Biggest Loser, but each pound I struggle with still feels crappy. I’m not as concerned about looking bad as I am about feeling bad. I want to be stronger and not have to buy new clothes because the old ones don’t fit. Or worse yet, buy clothes that are too big and grow into them. Plus I gotta look good in a bikini because I live at the beach. LOL!

The company I work for sent me orchids for <strike>Secretaries</strike> Administrative Professionals Day this year. I’m pretty sure I squealed a little when I opened the package!

I’ve never had orchids before because I was scared I’d kill them right away. They seem so delicate and I’ve seen all the care and attention people put into them. Ferns are another plant that I’m basically scared of. They are so beautiful! But killing plants is depressing, especially when I’m trying really hard not to!

The orchid has been with me for two weeks now and it’s still looking happy and healthy. If it’s still alive in a month – I might go buy a fern. Haha!

Is this what happens when things slow down?

Are you in need of an adventure? Want to travel more? Up for the challenge of living in a culture completely different than your own? Always dreamed of living abroad?

My former boss is looking for two teachers in South Korea for positions starting in the beginning of August. There are some horror stories of teachers going to Asia and getting ripped off but I can assure you that this guy is legit and treats his foreign teachers (you!) fairly.

The basics: You’d teach between 5-8 classes a day. No huge class sizes (the most I ever had was 10 kids). You are paid monthly. They pay for your housing – you pay for utilities only. 2 weeks vacation plus national holidays. One year contract (you can always stay longer, we stayed for 3 years). They pay roundtrip airfare. The apartments he has are a ten minute walk from school and a five minute walk from the subway. Lots of restaurants, a Walmart Supercenter type store and a Starbucks within a block of the apartment.

Requirements: You must have a bachelor’s degree and be a native speaker of English. Pretty simple really.

Living in Korea is an adventure and takes some time to acclimate… but once you are ready for more, all of Southeast Asia is a short, cheap plane ride away. Let me know if you are interested and I can get you some more info!

Pictures: the city of Sanbon at night (where the job is), a sweet Korean girl, lanterns from Buddha’s Birthday, Matt and I during our Korean wedding performance, delicious Korean food and the view from our apartment in Sanbon (it’s a beautiful city).

You’d think living in Seal Beach means we see lots of seals… or sea lions… but we don’t. We are known for being the sting ray capital of America. Lovely. To avoid being stung, it’s recommended that you drag your feet into the water rather than running in full blast because the vibrations of dragging your feet will cause the string rays to scurry away. Believe it or not, I haven’t swam here once. We do walk along the water a few times a week though. I can’t get enough of the sight and smell of the ocean. We also have some nifty beach chairs that we’ll pull out once the wind is warmer.

Last week Matt and I were walking along the water when he spotted dolphins! It was so much fun watching them swimming back and forth and breathing through their blowholes. There were at least six of them. The lifeguard told us that there was a whale sighting the day before and a lone sea lion had come in for a bit too. Now that I know what to look for with the dolphins, I hope to see them more often.

I took this picture with my iPhone. As you can see, Seal Beach has quite the busy horizon. There are a few oil derricks out there and plenty of boats and ships. I still love it here though because it is way less crowded than all the other beaches around.

Howdy folks! I feel like I should reintroduce myself after being away for so long. Is it already April? Has it really been almost 8 months since I blogged last?!?

Life has been crazy busy lately. And when I say “life” what I really mean is “work”. Those terms have become interchangeable in the past year, unfortunately. My return to blogging is one of the things I’ve decided to do to create a life aside from my day job. Since I do get to see some fun things at work, I’ll be sharing them here, but I plan to focus on pretty much anything other than work.

Besides, life without all of you has been far less interesting!

Moving is so much fun! I love going through stuff and tossing things that are not needed, what I don’t like though is doing it in a hurry. Unfortunately, time is not completely on our side for this move. We have a few weeks but the available time for packing is going to be cut short by my working and our three day trip to Denver next week. Not that I’m complaining, this is all very exciting.

As Matt and I were discussing a packing strategy, I remember saying something about going through rooms/closets one at a time and doing an orderly pack. Well, I got home from work last night to find most cupboards/closets empty and everything out in the middle of the rooms. Oh dear. This would be one of those “choose your battles” scenarios… I decided not to be upset about it because he was able to pack a lot of his stuff… but MAN, do I hate the house looking like this. I guess it gives me more incentive to pack… maybe that was his plan all along!

We picked up some boxes from Wal-Mart last night but were told to go back on Thursday for their busy night. Boxes galore. In any size we could possibly want. Beautiful. That gives me tonight to fill up these smaller ones we got last night.

I listed a few things on Craig’s List the other day. I’ve gotten two inquiries: one asking what the deal was with the add (what?!?) and the other offering $20 on an $80 item. Whatevs.

We’re also looking into options for moving. Matt wanted to avoid the U-Haul thing because it’s such a pain. Movers are not even double (when you take into account fuel). Today I’m going to price those pods. We don’t have that much stuff but it’d be fun to have it all moved out there for us so we could enjoy the road trip to Cali together.

Matt’s taking his last test in Algebra today (the final is optional). It’s funny how everything is coming to a close at the same time. I resigned from Level 3 on Monday. I felt bad sending in the resignation letter because I have learned a lot and had fun there. But, it’s definitely time. We are soooo excited to be moving on to the next phase in life!
