“The Killer in Me” is being filmed downtown today. Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Casey Affleck and Simon Baker are in it… not sure which are in town though. I have a couple of errands to run but hoping to cruise over there and see what I can see before work. Read the story at newson6.com.

We traded in our Honda this weekend and came home with this Toyota Matrix. Matt and I drove all over the place yesterday. Driving around without a destination is one of our favorite past times. I love it!

Chucks Part Two

Today I bought a pair of black All Stars. As I was checking out, the young sales clerk tried to convince me that I needed to get another pair. Green, maybe? Oh man, don’t tempt me, kid!

When I got to work, a co-worker asked me about them. Then asked how old I was. Hehe. Then he proceded to tell me that he used to where them when Chuck was still alive. Good stuff.

Isn’t this the coolest Weber grill ever? I found it on Crate and Barrel while I was browsing online. Matt and I love grilling, we used to grill all the time, but we haven’t since coming back to America because we have yet to buy a grill. I was holding out for ~~some unknown reason~~ this one! I love the color! I can already taste the grilled chicken breasts, hamburgers, brats and veggies. And grilling them on this cute little grill is going to be so much more enjoyable! They also have matching barbeque tools and bowls. I can’t get enough of this color green. I incorporate it in every area of my life. Every time we are out shopping, I gravitate towards things with simlar shades of green and Matt will be like, “Steph, it’s green”. What can I say? Green is my favorite color!

My (Future) Buddy

I found a scooter on Craig’s List yesterday that I could have afforded to buy today. I was skeptical, and almost didn’t go, because I’ve never bought anything big on Craig’s List and it was being sold for half of what it was worth. Matt and I cruised over this afternoon to take a look. The poor little guy was pretty much trashed. The front plastic guard part had a huge crack in it, the cover to one of the blinkers was gone and there was another piece of plastic missing, not to mention all the bumps and scratches. I’m not sure I would have wanted to drive it if someone had given it to me!

So we left and went over to Tulsa Scooters to have a look. I can’t buy it today, or this month for that matter, but I want a Buddy. This Buddy. Isn’t it great? Genuine Scooters imports them… this is one from the International series called Pamplona. I actually saw this model online before I saw it at the store and showed it to Matt (although he doesn’t remember).

The only issue, other than not being able to bring it home today, is that this is the one that Matt likes too. How cheesy would it be for us to have matching scooters?! He really likes the Stellas… so maybe he’ll be more interested in getting one of those when the time comes.

Yellow Makes Me Happy

Last night I bought this cute kitchen timer. I’m really excited to get it and stick it to the stove.

There are several small things we need in our house to make things more convenient. The kitchen is one area of our home that functions fairly well… most of the time. Every now and then we come up needing something that we thought we had but can’t find. I don’t regret slimming down our belongings, it’s nice not having clutter and un-used junk spread all over the place, BUT when you are making candy and suddenly realize you got rid of your candy thermometer, it’s a bummer! Or when you are in the middle of baking something and you realize you didn’t set a timer, because you don’t have one, and that there are no clocks on the first floor of the house, so you have no idea when you put the stuff in the oven. I’ve been lucky enough not to ruin anything by under or overcooking it. One night some French bread got a bit darker than I’d prefer, but everyone ate it anyway, so no biggie.

I decided that as I slowly replace the things I do need, that I’m going to get stuff I really like. I’m also attempting to create some sort of pattern or design so that everything goes together well. I’m no designer and in the past I ended up having things in various colors and styles. Everything seemed unfinished and unrelated. Eclectic is good. Hodgepodge is not.

I still don’t know what I’m doing, really, but I’ve been trying really hard to learn more. I have lots of ideas, but incorporating them in a way that looks and feels good to Matt and I hasn’t been so easy. Honestly, I think I’m still trying to figure out what exactly I like. A lot of that comes with knowing who I am. Which is another post altogether!

I’ll toast to that!

You know how I know 2008 is going to be a good year? Matt just said he liked a duvet I like. It’s a miracle! I’m tempted to go get it RIGHT NOW so that he doesn’t change his mind.

Also, you remember that chair I liked at Pottery Barn, the one Matt said he wouldn’t mind having in the house if I covered it up? I just showed it to him again, because it’s on sale, and he said, “That’s cute, you should get it.” No freaking way. Is he well? He seems to be… maybe one of his New Year’s resolutions is to let me do what I want!

Eating has gotten a lot easier

Here’s a picture of the dishes we ended up buying. I really like them and Matt has come around too. Hehe. I was looking online and found them on Amazon for half the price we paid. Burn. I had thought about getting two sets, since ours has only four settings, but I didn’t want to spend all that right now. If I do decide to get more, I’ll be getting them online. I also found some square plates that go with the set, so I’m thinking about getting some of those as well.

I’ve also come to realize that I’m in serious need of some kitchen toys. I’m thinking Pampered Chef is what I need. I was thinking about having a party before the holidays, but now I’m thinking things are looking too busy. Grr. If anyone might be interested in coming to a party, email me!

Pollyanna vs. Debbie Downer

My life has taken quite a turn. I used to look forward to the weekends, because my weeks were unpleasant and the weekends were relaxing. Now my weeks are great and my weekends are busy and somewhat stressful. I still have fun, because I get to hangout with my husband and friends, but we’ve been running around every single weekend since coming here, looking for this or that. We’ve found a lot of cool stuff, and thanks to our friend’s truck, it’s all at our house, but there is still so much we need. I thought filling up the house was going to be so much fun, but at this point, I’m tired of it!

Matt has tons of input on the house. I’ve always been grateful for how involved he was, but this time around we haven’t agreed on everything and I find myself wishing he didn’t care so much! It’d be easier for me to pick it out on my own. The other night we were at Pottery Barn and they had this chair that was really awesome. I sat in it and grinned at him. I told him how it was the perfect size for me and how I loved the pattern. He replied something along the lines of, “That’s all right if you throw a sheet over it.” Whaaaaat??? How rude! It’s a wonder we’ve been able to agree on the things we have bought (couch, coffee table, TV, entertainment stand and dishes). I won’t even get into how ridiculous it was finding dishes. He kind of gave in on the ones I wanted… and we found other stuff that he felt like “tied the rest of the kitchen together”… so it’s okay now… but for a few hours there… volatile, highly volatile. Haha.

We’re still on the lookout for curtains, a chair or two for the living room, bedroom furniture, bookshelves and desks… not to mention all the little stuff. I wish I were looking forward to all of this! Right now I want to be done so that I can just hang out and be comfortable. Do I sound like Debbie Downer? I feel like it.

Work is great though. There is so much to learn, it’s definitely a challenge for me. I like that everyone around me knows so much. I can soak up information from everyone at this point. It’s really neat. I’m on the phones now, doing a lot of the basic functions for the group I’m currently in, but I still have a lot to learn so that I can troubleshoot and be as quick as the others. Next week I move over to another group to learn what they do. I’m not sure how long I’ll be there, but it’ll be something new again. There is so. much. information. Thankfully my boss has got me taking everything one step at a time. Right about the time I get to feeling like I’ve got a handle on things, he adds something new. I’m really starting to understand how things are connected within the company and what it is we actually do. I’m still excited about this job, I absolutely love it.

We’re Aquiring Furniture

We stopped in at the Pier 1 in Oklahoma City on our way to Colorado last month. They had a couch on sale that both Matt and I loved. We actually considered picking it up then and there, but decided against it since we weren’t sure how much stuff we’d be bringing back with us. Thank God we didn’t since we would have had to throw away a lot of things we wouldn’t have wanted to.

Once we got back to Tulsa, we went over and bought the couch here. We also bought an awesome dining room table and chairs (which aren’t online) .

It’s seems backwards that we got them before we got an apartment, but, hey, I was worried they’d sell out and that I wouldn’t be able to find anything I liked that much. I’m picky, to say the least. Hopefully we’ll be moving everything over to our own place soon so I can get some pictures of our furniture in our own place.

One Laptop Per Child

I had heard of some computers being developed for poorer countries, but I hadn’t heard of anything lately. David Pogue at the New York Times has done a little review of the $100 XO laptop. They will be offering them to the U.S. for a couple of weeks coming up soon. If anyone is looking to buy a computer for their kids, this looks like something you might want to look in to, not only will you get a decent computer for your kid, but they’ll give one to a kid in a developing country.
