Something weird happened over vacation. I was all excited about blogging about our adventures in Tulsa, even formulated posts in my head most days, but never ended up writing anything. Pure craziness. Matt, on the other hand, posted several times. Bazal hasn’t told me what this all means yet.

Vacation was great though. We didn’t leave Tulsa but we did get off the couch. We ate at Elote a lot. We took pictures. We watched movies. We took in some live music at Shades. It was actually quite refreshing to chill for a week straight.

Eloté is a newish restaurant downtown. Their food is so delicious and clean tasting. Clean to me equals no grease. Usually there is all this oil dripping out of my tacos when we eat out… but not there. They have some salmon tacos that Matt enjoyed and we devoured some of their lunch sandwiches on another stop. Everything is organic and locally grown. We love that place.

I took pictures of a friend downtown one afternoon. I was actually kind of nervous because I wanted to make sure the pictures would be good/usable and I’ve only ever taken pictures of Matt. She was hilarious and I had sooooo much fun doing it. I’ll have to get permission from her before I show you one.

We rented three movies over break: Vicky Christina Barcelona, Changeling and Milk. We didn’t plan to have a movie marathon but ended up watching them all in a row. I liked all of them for different reasons. Vicky Christina Barcelona is a Woody Allen film, so it was funky. I love Scarlett Johansson. I always wonder if the actors/actresses who have an extremely believable role are actually acting like themselves. Penelope Cruz=crazy lady?? Changeling was a great period movie. The clothes, hair and cars were great. It left me feeling sad though. Milk was good. Sean Penn is a stinkin’ good actor. I enjoyed the story and was surprised when the movie was over because I felt like I hadn’t been watching for long. It was sad too but left me feeling hopeful and not depressed.

Shades of Brown usually has live music on Tuesday nights. We’ve never planned to go and watch anyone but have ended up being there a few times. The other night we stopped in for a bit and heard there was going to be music. I wanted to hear the first guy, Chris McLeod, because he’s friend with lots of people I know and I wanted to see what he sounded like. He was great. While he was singing, I saw the next guys getting ready and decided I wanted to stay and watch them too. They were Something in the Wheel. I have to say that I really, really dug them. I’ve had their songs in my head ever since. We actually did a little soap/music swap. I think I’d like a barter system. It’s fun. Third up was Damion Suomi. He was just great too. Different but just as awesome. Lastly was Andy Zipf. A bunch of the gang have known him for a long time but I’d never heard of him. He was cool and I enjoyed listening, for sure, but I liked the second and third sets best.

Those are the highlights of our vacation. In between those things are bunches of reading, sitting outside, eating, sleeping, and more picture taking. The best thing of all was that all these things were done with my husband!

Tulsa got some ice again this year. Thankfully it hasn’t been as crazy as last year. That whole seven days without power thing really sucked. Matt’s classes have all been canceled this week, so we’ve stayed home, all warm and cozy. Well, except for this afternoon, when I realized I didn’t have any Coke in the house. I wanted to walk but Matt wasn’t fond of the idea. He started the car but it was obvious it was going to take quite some time for it to warm up and for us to get the ice off the windows. I oohed and ahhhed out the window at our beautiful winter wonderland until finally Matt said he’d walk with me! Yahoooo!

We bundled up, he grabbed his camera and we walked to Sonic. It was so much fun! I wanted to lick the ice… tasted like ice. It sure is pretty though. We got pretty cold on the way back but our house felt so warm in comparison!

Here’s Matty in all his chivalry, er, chiverry. He was so cold. Haha!

And here’s me with my big a$$ Route 44 Coke. It was so worth it!

Mary came into town a little bit early so we’ve been spending time together, whenever I’m not working. We went shopping and had Starbucks at Utica today. It was a lot of fun. We were both saying how much we love that it is in the upper 70′s on Halloween. Not even a chill in the air. I’m definitely hoping the warmth sticks around as long as possible because I know it’s going to get cold this winter.

Because there was only one shower needed in the house this morning, I took a steaming hot shower. A very. very. very. hot shower. It felt good but I quickly came to the conclusion that I’d rather have a lukewarm shower with my husband home than a hot one alone.

Today was our wedding anniversary. Six years! And today was awesome. Our wedding day was one of the best days of my life and the memories gave me warm fuzzies all day long.

When we walked out the door this morning afternoon, I was reminded of our wedding day. The sun was shining brightly and it was warm. 75-degrees-in-October warm. I’ve become accustomed to Tulsa’s weather and I really appreciate that it’s not cold here yet. We ate our breakfast/lunch outside at BBD’s on Brookside and then drove around looking at all the neat old homes in the area. We actually came across a cool old temple that we hadn’t seen before and got out to take pictures of it. After that we went downtown and took a few pictures of the building I work in and some others nearby. We got some Starbucks and sat in the grass enjoying the quiet downtown that we (the homeless guy, Matt and I) had all to ourselves. It was great. Perfect really.

I’m a sucker for Survivor and it’s on again! Our call volume has been low tonight so I’ve been able to watch most of it so far.

My weekend has changed at work. I used to have Wednesday and Thursday off but from now on I’ll have Monday and Tuesday off. It’s cool because I like changing things up.

Matt’s been working a temp job for the past couple of weeks. The worst part about it all has been that his hours were 7 am to 3:30 pm and I work 4-12 pm. I leave before he gets home, and he’s in bed when I get home. Our weekends weren’t the same, so our time together was pretty limited. I’ve really missed him! The work turned out to be pretty hardcore. He, along with a few other temps, have been moving huge pieces of steel around and preparing to “box up” other pieces. It turns out that they were going to have to build the box with wood as they went by climbing, measuring, building, sawing, drilling all the way up and around this giant piece of something-or-another. It’s actually fairly dangerous and Matt was surprised they were having temps do it. He really didn’t get a good feeling about it and was thinking about changing jobs. He called Rebecca (our friend at the temp agency) and she said they didn’t have any other short-term work right now. A few minutes later she called and said that the company didn’t need their temps after tomorrow. I have to say that I’m happy because the work was crazy and I really didn’t want Matt getting hurt. We’ll get to spend more time together again. AND Matt has a sweet tan going. Sexy, sexy.

I went shopping today. I never go shopping. I found a few things at Banana Republic and GAP. I’m actually proud of my purchases because I got them on sale and I think they look great on me. I didn’t allow myself into American Eage, even though their ginormous, red SALE sign was beckoning me. I have too many clothes from there and they make me feel like I’m trying to look like I’m in highschool. Which I’m not. Trying to look that way. I still need to show them to Matt for the final approval. He has way more fashion sense than me. Thank God.

So, it’s my Monday. Doing my work thing. My work thing = watch a lot of baseball. Night.

After several years of sleeping together, that sounds naughty – hehe, my husband recently stated that he’d like to get a king size bed. I thought it was a random request because I didn’t feel like we were having any issues in bed. *snicker*

I once read an article that said even though most people eventually work their way up to a king, couples should keep their queens. It said that there is enough room that you aren’t on top of one another but there there isn’t so much room that you never touch. I’m not the hugest cuddler in the world but I do like some contact. I imagined ourselves never touching and growing apart in our relationship because of the larger bed. I decided that the reasoning in the article made perfect sense and have been completely content with our queen.

Until Matt dropped the bomb. To me, it felt like he was asking for a divorce. Or at least a seperation. I nearly cried. I demanded his reasons, none of which had to do with the status of our marriage. It was more along the lines of wanting more room to stretch out… or some such nonsense.

Tonight I was talking with a co-worker and realized that king size beds normally have two twin box springs. This was good news. You see, we aren’t able to get our box spring up the stairs in our house. Matt and a friend even bent the frame a little but it wouldn’t get past the turn. As a result, we have our mattress on the floor. I’ve never complained, because I’m grateful for a comfortable bed, but I often peruse the bedroom furniture online. Afterwards, I was usually a bit bummed because I figured that as long as we rented this house, we wouldn’t be able to use our bed. I know there are platform beds available, but to be honest, we had those for three years in Korea and I’d like to be up a little higher. So tonight my heart jumped for joy when I envisioned moving two thinner box springs up the stairs and getting our mattress up off the floor. Yes! Will the bed be too big? Who cares. Haha!

I’m going to have a talk with Matt. I think we need to give each other some more space.

Matt and I have been working on our business a lot lately. He asked me to teach him to make soap, so that he’d be capable of doing it if necessary. Tonight we went through the whole process together. It was a lot of fun having a soap making partner! We made another batch of Lavender soap for babies and it turned out really well.

We ordered our second load of carrier oils (olive and coconut) and essential and fragrance oils. We already got the carrier oils, which is why we were able to make a batch tonight, and are eagerly awaiting the smelly ones.

Available soon in a month or so: Spearmint-Eucalyptus (minty fresh!), Chamomile Fields (major calm me downer), Adrak Chai (Ginger tea- yum!) and Apple Spice (fall is here!). I want to make them all RIGHT NOW!
