Several of my friends made a movie. Like a real movie. And it is really, really good! It’s called The Rock’n'Roll Dreams of Duncan Christopher. Matt and I went to the premiere at The Method Fest 2010 (an independent film festival in Calabasas, CA). We expected it to be good but it was so much more than that… we loved it!

The film was funny, the characters endearing, the story brilliant. Matt’s a movie quoter and he walked away cracking up over a bunch of the lines. Another thing I loved was seeing our old ‘hood on the big screen. How cool! I spent a total of 8 years in Tulsa and miss a lot of things about it. They filmed Duncan Christopher when we were still living in Tulsa and I really regret not being an extra. How rad would it have been to see myself in the background? As I recall, I was working when they needed people. Lame. Haha.

Christine Meintjes, my favorite wedding photographer, came to the States for a few weeks and I got to meet her last night! I’ve been following her blog for months and months and have never seen a picture I didn’t like. I love her style, personality, framing, processing… everything! She’s given me lots of good advice in the past and is so encouraging. It doesn’t hurt that she’s from beautiful South Africa!

Her and her boyfriend, Iaan, had been hanging out with Henry Chen and his girlfriend, Nancy, and Edmund Prietos. Matt and I met up with them at Henry’s studio in Long Beach (hoping to “borrow” the pic from Christine!) and drove down to Las Brisas in Laguna Beach for dinner.

It feels like the market is saturated with photographers and, honestly, not all photographers seem unique to me. There are days that I’m gung ho on working towards being professional but there are other days where I feel like I’ll be lucky to ever book anything! I was saying last night that I’d like to go pro and ended with a shrug of my shoulders. One of them said, “A lot can happen in a year. You look back and can’t believe all that’s happened.” They are doing it and were encouraging me to press on. It was wonderful! I’m grateful for them and can’t wait to continue learning more about the biz!

Regarding the title of this post… we had a long conversation about languages and were told that ‘thank you very much’ in Afrikaans sounds like an American saying ‘buy a donkey’. Hah!

Enjoyed Desire to Inspires’ afghan post. Mom taught me how to crochet granny squares when I was younger. I don’t remember how but I think it’d come back if I gave it a shot. I’ve been inspired to try since smosch started doing hers.

Counting Down… 2 Days!!

One week without Matt sucks! Things are going well though, my only complaint is that I miss him. It’s a bummer. I’m looking forward to seeing him in a few days.

Mary came into town a little bit early so we’ve been spending time together, whenever I’m not working. We went shopping and had Starbucks at Utica today. It was a lot of fun. We were both saying how much we love that it is in the upper 70′s on Halloween. Not even a chill in the air. I’m definitely hoping the warmth sticks around as long as possible because I know it’s going to get cold this winter.

Today is my sister Lyndsey’s birthday. It’s crazy to me that she is 26 because when I think of her, her 12 year old self comes to mind. I’m thinking the reason for this is that that was right before I started working and getting ready for college, so we spent a lot of time together. I secretly envied her and wanted to be more like her. She didn’t concern herself with trivial things and she was always causing trouble having fun. She has always genuinely cared for her family and friends and would do anything to help any one of us.

Living far from family is weird, especially during birthdays and holidays. I miss the fun we used to have… She’s a great person and I really love her. Happy birthday, Lynz!

… to my younger brother Josh. You are nearly a man. Congratulations! I remember being nervous the day you were born because I didn’t really remember the other kids being born. You were so tiny and perfect. I was so excited to have another brother!

My brother-in-law is all of that and more. I’m so glad I married into the Lloyd family. I have so much to learn from these saints I now call family.

Happy birthday, Curtis! Leave Dubai and come home… so we can leave again. You know we both can’t live on the same continent for too long. We love you and miss you!

We don’t get to hang out enough and I never seem to pick up the phone for a chat, so I’m really excited that we can keep in touch via the blog world! My Weekend

This is where I spent my day. And much of yesterday.

My second favorite place in Tulsa is Shades of Brown. (Home would be my first.) My friend Melinda has done an amazing job creating this unique and comfortable coffee shop. It’s also an art gallery with different pieces displayed monthly. I love that! You can buy fun things like purses, journals, music, mugs and my soap too.

They have the most exquisite baklava that we’ve ever had. Sometimes we go just because we are craving it. I don’t drink espresso, but Matt says it’s good too. I usually drink chai or have some tea. They have Big Train products, which is what I usually crave. Chai Big Train. Green Mint Vanilla Big Train. Grasshopper Big Train. Sweet, icy goodness! Emmm!

I seriously love Shades. The atmosphere is great, the drinks are great and it’s less than a mile from home. I try to enjoy it as much as possible because I know I’ll miss it once we leave town.

Hijacking the Babies

My friend Joni came up to Tulsa today and got a bunch of us together for lunch. We all went to ORU together (Susanne, Joy, Lauren, Joni and Tif). We chatted for a long time about what we were all doing these days and what everyone we used to know are doing these days. It was tons of fun and I was once again reminded how much I love my friends… and their babies. Haha!
