I love our little home but I really wish we could renovate! I read all these great design blogs every day and am so inspired by what I see. It wouldn’t take much to make our place super cute. One of the bigger projects would be to re-do the hardwood floors. It’s hard to believe they covered them with carpet. Yuck.

[via: Domino]

The biggest project would be the kitchen though. Probably the only thing that my landlord would allow me to do would be to remove the hideous border above the back splash if I painted the room afterward. I need to get curtains on the windows throughout the whole house. All we have is the mini-blinds that came with the place. The walls are bare too. It’d also be sweet to lift the floor 10 floors up… pretty sure that’s not going to happen though!

[via: design*sponge]

When we moved in, our landlord asked if I wanted the bedroom painted the same color green as the other side of the duplex. My favorite color is green and it was a really nice shade so I said yes. I kind of regret that decision. I wish the walls were lighter. I feel annoyed that everything I buy for the room has to in some way work with that color because I know after we leave this place, that color will be history. Oh well… at least I learned this lesson before we move into our own place.

[via: ashlie j: design sponge]

Someday I will pimp my home. Until then, I’ll save pictures of cute rooms. Haha!

On a side note, I had a meeting this morning with another potential Luka customer. I’m going to hold off on announcing who they are for the time being but let me just say… I’m so excited!!

It’s that time of year again, when I find myself wanting an endless supply of scarves. Fall. The chill in the air must be combatted with a unique scarf… for each outfit. Haha. I usually head to the mall, determined to pay whatever is listed for a scarf I want, only to be reminded that the cheap ones I don’t really like are $30 and the ones I really like are $80. I just can’t do it!

And with that, my mind tells me that I need to make some. It can’t be that hard. God knows I love projects and have a hard time sitting still. Knitting is perfect! Or so I think.

I came close to figuring it out once. A friend gave me some needles and yarn and sat with me as I fumbled my way through a few stitches. I ripped them all out, tried again, ripped them out and tried again for quite some time. I finally got the hang of it and proceded to knit myself a three inch scarf. It’s very dainty. And cute. Hehe.

My friends bought me Stitch ‘n Bitch Nation a few years ago and I got Stitch ‘n Bitch shortly after that. I’ve studied them and want to make several things in them. Oh man. So much pressure!

My game plan for this year is to buy some larger needles, maybe bamboo??, and different yarn. The needles I have are slippery and small, which frustrates me in no time. I’m a fairly patient person but I’m also a perfectionist and I don’t deal well with my stitches sliding all over the place.

So… new needles, new yarn. Surely they will inspire me to attain my knitting dreams!

Last night I bought this cute kitchen timer. I’m really excited to get it and stick it to the stove.

There are several small things we need in our house to make things more convenient. The kitchen is one area of our home that functions fairly well… most of the time. Every now and then we come up needing something that we thought we had but can’t find. I don’t regret slimming down our belongings, it’s nice not having clutter and un-used junk spread all over the place, BUT when you are making candy and suddenly realize you got rid of your candy thermometer, it’s a bummer! Or when you are in the middle of baking something and you realize you didn’t set a timer, because you don’t have one, and that there are no clocks on the first floor of the house, so you have no idea when you put the stuff in the oven. I’ve been lucky enough not to ruin anything by under or overcooking it. One night some French bread got a bit darker than I’d prefer, but everyone ate it anyway, so no biggie.

I decided that as I slowly replace the things I do need, that I’m going to get stuff I really like. I’m also attempting to create some sort of pattern or design so that everything goes together well. I’m no designer and in the past I ended up having things in various colors and styles. Everything seemed unfinished and unrelated. Eclectic is good. Hodgepodge is not.

I still don’t know what I’m doing, really, but I’ve been trying really hard to learn more. I have lots of ideas, but incorporating them in a way that looks and feels good to Matt and I hasn’t been so easy. Honestly, I think I’m still trying to figure out what exactly I like. A lot of that comes with knowing who I am. Which is another post altogether!

I’ve been putting a lot of thought into the things I want to spend my time doing… learning… seeing. It’s been an ongoing mental conversation I’ve had with myself since this summer. I knew that I was coming home, that things would be changing a lot and that I didn’t want to waste any more time in life. Unless, of course, I purposed to waste it beforehand by doing something like sleeping or vegging out. So I have this list of things I’d like to do, in an order that seems logical depending on a number of factors: the season, amount of money needed, my interest level, any obvious time frame, whether it’d be <strike>possible</strike> easy to do with kids, etc. I also take into account Matt’s thoughts… occasionally. Haha.

I’ve decided that although I like making journals, the ones I’ve made/started and all of the supplies I have are going in a tote for whenever I get the urge in the future. It’s tons of fun to do and I was getting much better, and faster, at binding them, but I haven’t really felt like doing it lately. I’ve been staring at my supplies, guilty about not using them, but rather than being upset, I’m just going to tuck it all away for later.

I’m going to focus on getting our house a little bit more homey. I’ve been trying to decide what kinds of stuff we want to add to our house… what kinds of curtains to put up… blah blah blah. I want a sewing machine to get started on some of that for Christmas. I want to add a bunch more plants and I need to come up with some good ideas for our bedroom. I’m also working my way back into photography. I’m looking at honing my skills and then buying an SLR sometime next year.

I started to get interested in interior decorating about a year ago. I’m pretty sure the reason I started to take notice was because I was living in a place that was really uncomfortable and I didn’t seem to have anything around me that could make it more comfortable. I started to look online for creative and unique ways to decorate spaces and subscribed to a bunch of designer’s blogs. I’ve been reading and learning like crazy for the last several months. There are definitely things I like and don’t like now, whereas before I was pretty much content with whatever was cheap or already there. I really didn’t put much thought into it.

Once we knew we were coming back home, I started praying that we’d get into a home that was unique in some way. I really didn’t want to move into a generic apartment with no character. We looked at a lot of places before settling on the place we moved into. I’m so happy with our choice. Our home is so cute and there are lots of fun features. I knew it’d be perfect for us once we walked in the front door with the landlord.

I was really excited about starting all over once we came back, but I’ve got to say, now that I’m presented with a blank canvas, I’m not sure where to start. We bought a couch and table and chairs that we love, so that was a decent start, but we have nothing else. I’m feeling overwhelmed! I want our place to look nice, I don’t have a ton of money to spend and I’m not sure where to go from here. I’m still looking around online and I have a lot of pictures for inspiration, but I’m having a hard time finding anything I truly like. Lots of the stuff at the stores are really fugly. I’ll see something that might work if I just messed with it… but I have a hard time spending a bunch of money just to rework it. Maybe that would be fun though… I’ve never bought something brand new and done what I want with it. I’ve bought a few things at garage sales and gone to town, but I wasn’t worried about permanent ugliness because I could just toss it, no harm done. But if I were to buy something for a bunch of money and make it look stupid, I’d be so mad! I’m just hoping to come across some cool pieces, since I can’t seem to actually find anything on purpose. I do have a few ideas, but once I do them, I don’t know what I’ll do. It’s not that I’m worried about all this, I’m just hoping to get us settled and comfortable in our new home sooner than later. We’re also having family stay with us during the holidays, and I’d like for them to be comfortable as well.

So, I really want to set up house but I have a lot to do and find before I’m able. I’ve taken a few shots of the house, but I don’t think I’m going to put them up until I’ve got the place looking good.

Today was great. Getting things done and being inspired to do more is awesome. I like accomplishing things. I like learning. I love spending time with my creative husband.

I spent some time tonight adding a bit more to my banner. I made a few more fun things, but I’m holding off on adding them because I’m not sure I like them or not. I also added the rest of the stuff to my sidebar that I had on the old design, but I’m not liking how it’s a mile long! I don’t generally like two sidebars, I think it looks cluttered, but I may have to do some experimenting with it anyway. What do you think?

We had another restful weekend; it mainly consisted of me moving from the bed to the couch and back again. I tried to stay as still as possible so my rib could heal. I’ve gotta say, it’s quite annoying because I can’t seem to get comfortable and all I want to do is streeeetch.

I’ve finished the basic design for my company’s website. I’m hoping to start on the actual construction of the site soon. I need Matt’s help, so we’ll need to sit down and work on it together. He’s helped me out with the design a little bit too… right when I’d get stuck on something, I’d ask him what he thought and his suggestions were what I needed to figure it out. He’s cool. I’m thankful.

I came across a designer today that has inspired me. I spent a long time looking through her site. It has so many beautiful pictures on it. I may be behind on the times, I don’t know, but tonight was the first time I’d heard of her. Or, possibly, none of you have heard of her either, in which case, I wouldn’t feel so bad. Anyway, her name is Amy Butler and she designs all sorts of stuff. I’m going to go crazy making things when I get home. I’ve already requested a sewing machine for Christmas. I can’t wait!!

I’ve been working on wcsoaps.com all day. I was looking around online for some pictures and design ideas regarding some products I hope to be offering and through a series of links came across theknot.com. I remembered that I had made a page way back when and did a quick search for us. I really didn’t think it’d still be on there… but it was. When the picture came up, I was like, who the, what the?!? We looked so different five years ago! I grabbed my side and started laughing uncontrollably. I tried to stop but I couldn’t. Honestly, I blame the medication… Hehe.

One thing I thought was funny is that it’s been counting up since we got married. We’ve been “newlyweds” for 1,708 days. That’s so cool! Our five year anniversary is this year… ooohhhh. We’re trying to decide what we want to do. I’d like to go lay on a beach for a week, but I’m thinking we’ll end up doing something much more low-key. Maybe a weekend at a spiffy hotel… or a road trip… we’re not sure yet. I have lots of ideas but I’m thinking that this whole move back to the States, starting new jobs and trying to make it to see family and friends for the holidays will cut into our vacation time for our anniversary. I don’t feel too bad about it, after all, I can’t wait to come home, start working and see family and friends again! I might be on a bit of an overload for awhile.

Back to weddings. I’ve been really interested in them lately. I’ve been reading all kinds of articles and looking at all kinds of wedding related stuff, like invitations, cakes, reception ideas, etc. I’ve realized that I really love weddings! I’m not sure if I’ll ever be involved in another one or not (come on sister, hurry up!), but I I’d like to be. I love the happiness and excitement that come along with <strike>most of</strike> them. I loved planning my own and I think it be fun to try again (on someone else!). Only time will tell.

I always felt like there was nothing worth watching on TV. I don’t know if it’s just me but it seems like there are TOO MANY good shows on these days! Matt’s been downloading the programs we like on a regular basis but we’re having a hard time keeping up with them. It’s crazy! We’re going to have to get some TiVo type recorder once we get back so that we aren’t glued to the TV every night of the week.

Tonight’s agenda:
9:30- 9:45 – Get home, drink a cup of cocoa, check email, write this post.
9:45- 10:30 – Watch Numbers while knitting.
10:30- 11:15 – Watch Desperate Housewives while knitting.

Yeah, I’m about to tear out (is that the phrase) what I’ve done so far on my scarf. I can’t deal with extremely wide scarves and this one is wider than I had expected it to be. Coupled with that and the fact that I made several mistakes that I now know how to avoid and you’ve got a scarf that would probably be stuffed in the back of the closet and never worn. Hopefully round two will be faster (and actually be completed!). I have major incentive to finish it… the temperature dropped by nearly 20 degrees this weekend! It’s officially fall in Korea. Steph needs a fun new scarf!
