Smile! Cheese! Kimchi!
Matt and I have been doing some major research on cameras and lenses. My camera is out of commission and Matt is limited by his because he can’t take RAW images. We’re pretty sure we’re going to get Canon 40D’s. I’ve been learning more about lenses because I don’t know much about them at all. I wish I had a secret pot of $5,000 to outfit myself. Oh well.
My title refers to what some people say right before taking pictures. We, of course, say “say cheese”. In Korea, it was a toss up between saying “kimchi” and “chee-ju” (their pronunciation for cheese). I was curious what other countries say and found this on Wikipedia.
- In Japan, they also use the word cheese, pronounced in their own language as as “chiizu” (チーズ).
- In China, the word used is 茄子 (qie2zi), meaning “eggplant.”
- In France and other French-speaking countries, the word “ouistiti,” meaning marmoset, is often used.
- In most Latin American countries, the phrase used is “Diga ‘whiskey’” (“Say ‘whiskey‘”).
- In Spain, the usual word is “patata” (“potato”).
- In Brazil, the phrase is “Olha o passarinho” (“Look at the little bird”) or “Digam ‘X’” (“Say ‘X’”).
- In Denmark, “Sig ‘appelsin’“, meaning “Say ‘orange’” is often used.
- In Sweden, “Säg ‘omelett’”, meaning “Say ‘omelette’” is often used.
Anyone aware of any others?
