Tonight I was scanning the headlines on CNN and saw ‘In a world’ voiceover master dies at 68. Immediately I heard his voice in my head, even though I had no idea who he was. I thought that surely I was imagining someone else’s voice and that the right voice hadn’t really come to mind.

I read the article, he was born in Duluth!, and was quite proud of myself for hearing the right voice. Then I felt sad. It’s unfortunate learning about someone after they’ve already passed away. We can celebrate their memory but I often think it would have been way cooler to know who they were before they died. I guess I could have wondered who that voice was and looked it up. But I never did.

So, the voice turned out to be Don LaFontaine’s voice. According to his website, he did over 5,000 movie trailers and nearly 350,000 commercials, programs, files and other presentations.  And soon we won’t hear him anymore. I can’t imagine that I’ll ever enjoy another movie trailer again. His voice will be missed!

A six minute video that you should watch:

The hilarious GEICO commercial:

I can’t stop laughing about this one… so watch it real quick too!

Amazing. I watched the first one and it only took an hour and three quarters. Dial-up is the thing to have-right. I am saving the second one for speeder times. I will have to listen for his voice on movies..
